Orchid Genera Abbreviations

Sometimes we see this gorgeous flower, and HAVE to find out just what it is (so maybe it can become part of our collections!)..  Then we pull the label to see what it is, and we're faced with one of a variety of scenarios:
 
  1. The name is so long, it barely fits on the tag unless written really small.
  2. There's plenty of room, but the abbreviation of the genus is unknown or ambiguous.
  3. You know right away that this plant is a victim (OK, you are) of recent taxonomic changes, and you've simply never heard of that generic name before.

Fortunately, Gary Wills of South Carolina has come to the rescue and taken the time to compile lists of the currently-existing orchid genera and their abbreviations - no small task, the list is 36 pages long in two columns!

He has been kind enough to share them with us under the stipulation that they remain free to all, and not offered for sale or incorporated into anything offered for sale.  So here they are:
